Young Woman Hospitalized After Driving off Signal Hill Cliff

A 20-year-old woman remains in serious condition for injuries she sustained after driving off a cliff on Signal Hill in St. John's, officials say.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was thrown more than 20 metres after the Toyota Echo rolled off the cliff. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said a third-party reported a motorist was driving suspiciously near Cabot Tower around 8 a.m., and emergency responders said the woman crashed through a barricade before going down the rocky hillside.

Avalon Towing, along with the St. John's Regional Fire Department and the RNC collaborated to extract the vehicle from the cliffside in the hours after the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
