#PrayForSophie Trends after Trudeau's Wife Asks for Help Helping Others

Sophie Trudeau, wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, took the abuse of social media's snark and sarcasm after the public learned of some comments in a French newspaper. Trudeau's comments remarked about a desire for more assistants so she can coordinate with the various causes she wants to endorse, according to the CBC.

"I’d love to be everywhere but I can’t,” she told Le Soleil. “I have three children and a husband who is prime minister. I need help. I need a team to help me serve the people.”

Though apparently well-intentioned, Sophie Trudeau's comments struck a nerve with Canadians besieged by a slacking economy and weak currency. Critics quickly pointed out Sophie Trudeau enjoys the help of two nannies, a personal assistant, and chef--all paid for by the taxpayer.

The hashtag #PrayForSophie quickly trended on Twitter as the cascade of sarcastic well-wishers and volunteers reacted to the comment.

"I'm gonna organize a bake sale to help," @TeamAdam76 quipped.

"Sophie-Gregoire Trudeau: moving women forward by acting like a spoiled princess, inspiring," wrote @LittleRedYYC.

@RickFuerst tweeted a photo of the Trudeau couple on their wedding day and included the caption, "No one should have to live with the indignity of a caviar more chilled than your champagne. #PrayForSophie"

Twitter user @OhCanadiana perhaps summed up the public relations misstep best with, "*facepalm* but ok #prayforsophie #thejoyofsatire."
